Plastic Rebar Spacers or Cover Blocks
A rebar spacer is a device that secures the reinforcing steel or “rebar” in reinforced concrete structures as the rebar is assembled in place prior to the final concrete pour. The spacers are left in place for the pour to keep the reinforcing in place, and become a permanent part of the structure.
Why They Are Crucial:
Corrosion Prevention: Spacers ensure the steel remains deeply embedded in the concrete. This keeps moisture and oxygen from reaching the rebar, stopping the steel from rusting and expanding, which would otherwise crack the concrete.
Structural Integrity: They ensure the rebar doesn’t shift, sag, or touch the outer edges of the concrete when the heavy mixture is poured.
Fire Resistance: Adequate concrete cover insulates the steel reinforcement bars, preventing them from softening during a fire.
