PatchMortar FR

Description

PatchMortar FR fibre reinforced general Patch Mortar for Concrete Repair is specially formulated to produce an easily applied, smooth working mortar for patching structural and non-structural concrete.

Uses

PatchMortar FR may be used for patching break-outs, spalls, edge pitting, honey-combs and restoring corners in structural columns. PatchMortar FR is especially useful to pre-casters for reducing cull rates due to manufacture or handling defects.

Application

PatchMortar FR should only be applied to sound, clean and properly prepared surfaces if delamination of the hardened product is to be avoided.
Samson recommends that all wet to dry concrete bonding processes are by application of binder thickened latex or wet to dry epoxy resins. Consult Samson document “Bonding Concrete – techniques for greater success”.
The substrate concrete should be wetted to the point that it will not prematurely suck the moisture from either the bonding primer or the mortar which would result in plastic crack development and a dry zone of un-hydrated material which would give a weak bond.
The patch mortar should be applied wet onto the latex modified bond slurry.
Where an epoxy wet to dry bonder is used the substrate should not be wetted but sufficient epoxy bonder must be applied to prevent moisture loss from the patch mortar and a good connection with the applied mortar.
PatchMortar FR may be built up in stages for thick repairs. Where PatchMortar FR is applied at more than 10mm thick polymer modification is not necessary unless a reduced modulus of the hardened patch is required.

Strength

Mixed at a ratio of 15% water to PatchMortar FR powder a trowelable mortar is obtained and this will give a water to binder ratio of 0.45 and therefore a 28 day strength of above 40MPa.

Packaging

PatchMortar FR is packaged in 25kg polylined, woven bags.

Shelf Life

The shelf life of PatchMortar FR is 9 months, properly stored in cool, dry conditions. If in doubt submit a sample to Samson Technologies c.c. for testing and approval before use.
PatchMortar FR is also available in a pre-polymer version only requiring the addition of water for repairs less than 5mm.
